Talking therapy gives you a supportive and encouraging space to recognise your own feelings, emotions and thoughts away from judgement and expectations. Counselling is empowering and can lead to changes which help us to live a better life. In times of grief we can feel low, isolated, at an emotional tipping point.

Taking a step back and recognising that you may need some support and you no longer want to struggle alone is a courageous act, and you are putting your well being first.

Yes, it’s absolutely normal.

 

There can be a lot of unknowns and there can be apprehension over what you will talk about. How would I fill an hour? What if I just burst into tears straight away?

The great thing about coming to counselling is that I strive to accept you how you are, without expectations or judgements on how you should be feeling. This can feel liberating, as we are often expected to act in certain ways or to hide painful emotions, which can be harmful and debilitating in the long run. Feeling nervous is okay and is accepted as an understandable emotion.

Getting the right counsellor is really important.

 

Counselling is all about the relationship in order for trust to develop and for you to feel safe enough to explore your feelings and bring about change. Contact a few different counsellors if you are able. Ask them questions and see if you feel comfortable with them. If not, try another. There will be the right counsellor out there for you.

 

I offer a £15 thirty minute initial meeting, so you can decide if I am the right counsellor for you.

It can often feel safer to keep struggling alone, to think that in a few months time you will be feeling better.

 

But why take that chance?

 

If you keep struggling alone this could lead to further emotional problems, sleep issues, time off work, or GP visits.

By taking the time and space for yourself now you are taking steps to look after yourself and put preventative self care in place.

You are welcome to ask me some initial questions about counselling by phone, or you can contact me by email.

 

If you decide to book, we will arrange a mutually convenient date and time for you to attend your first session.

 

The first session involves going through a Counselling agreement so that you know a bit more about what to expect from the counselling sessions.

It’s also a chance for you to ask me more questions about counselling if you would like too, before we move over to what is most important; you.

I offer both evening appointments and Saturday appointments.

 

I try to make counselling as accessible as possible for as many people to seek the help that they need, which I why I offer what are normally classed as unsociable hours.

 

There is no extra charge for sessions at these times.
